    Ancient boundaries of Westmeath
    The county stretched from moor near Athboy to Shaunbeg - Delvin. In breadth it extended from Ua bhFailge to Longford. It comprised all the Mac Geoghgan, Mac Auley, and O' Melaghlin territory.

    English Settlement
    The County formed the palatenate[?] of Hugh de Lacy. His followers were Petit, Tuite, Hussey, D'Alton, Gaynor & Constantine.
    Settlers at various periods previous to Reformation
    D'Arcy, Jones, Lynch, Piers.
    After rebellion of 1641 - Packenham, Cooke, Winter, Purdon, Smyth, Levinge, Reynell, Wilson, Judge, Rockfort, Gauf, Hardy, St. George, Fetherson, Handy, Blanquire, Nagle & North.
