- There is a very strange method in the country for preventing smoke coming through white-wash or paint. A good deal of fresh cow manure is got and water is put in it until it is a thick liquid then it is strained. A white-wash brush is got and the wall is coated with this liquid first, then it is left for a few days until it is quite dry. It is white-washed then and it is a snow white colour and no smoke comes through the white wash.Transcribed by a member of our volunteer transcription project.
