   The landlord exercised no special power over his tenants. They were not punished for trivial acts.

   Tithes were collected in the district by Mr. Cox for himself. It was money that was collected. There are no stories about them. People did not resent their collection and battles were not fought on account of them.

   Mr. Batty was the local landlord. The family had been settled in the district for two or three centuries. They were looked upon as good landlords. There were no evictions on the Batty estate, but there were some on the Chapman estate. It is now known how the landlord or his ancestors came into possession of
