2. Local Ruins

   

   Roinn Roinn Postáil

   There are several ruins around this locality including castles and old houses and churches.

   Convenient to my home there is the ruins of an old monastery and at one time the residence of Bishop Hughes. This old monastery was occupied by some order of Monks and there is a holy well beside the Church known as Bishop Hugh's well. It appears that one day the Bishop was on his way to a sick call and lost the key of the Tabernacle and it is said that where he found the key the well sprang up. It rises up between two stones and the supply of water never either increases or reduces. Within a short distance from here is the ruins of the historic monastery of St Feichin of Fore and also the ruins of the mill that worked without water.
