    Told by Mr William Smyth, Gneeve, Mountnugent, Co. Cavan.
    When Cromwell came to Ireland he travelled the greater part of the country knocking down monasteries and bringing pain and destruction every place he travelled.
    In about the year 1652 he reached the ancient village of Fore and here he caused damage. He placed his gun on the Ben of Fore and blew up the abbey killing a number of monks and their bones are still to be seen there.
