  1. (a) Take a piece of clay or mud from between the crúibín of the cow and place it under the churn for the first churning on May Day.
    (b) Tie a woollen thread from tráithnín to traithnín around any bó páirc on May morning. Any cows coming inside the yarn before sunset of that day will give their butter to the family who tied the yarn.
    (c) Skin the water off the drinking pool from which the cows drink. Fill a milking pail, take the water home and put some of it into the first churning While skimming the pool these words must be said "The cream of this farm is mine".
    (d) By taking a "dash" at the churn as the old people express it that is by helping to make the churn.
