    he saw a black man catching hold of the chain of the bell.
    He went on till he came to the man. As soon as he did the black man gove the chain a pull. He gave it such a ring, that he landed the chain at his heels.
    He got such a fright that he ran home, and from that day till the day he died he belived in fairy stories.
    As well as that, no body else heard the ring of the bell, or the chain was not on the ground the next day.
