  1. Long ago the people used to make cleaves. They used to stick eight willow rods down in the ground in the shape of a circle. When they had all the willow rods stuck down in the ground they kept weaving a sally rod in and out between the willow rods until they came to the top of the sally rods. The sticks that were in the ground were pulled up and knotted from (side to) one side to the other.
