Ar an leathanach seo
- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)and small potatoes for pigs and fowl. Then they must be taken to the haggard, and pitted and covered well to protect them from the hardips of the winter. Those who grow a lot of potatoes grow them for the market use, and others only grow what do themselves.
In gardens where ridges are made a spade is used. The ridges are usually three feet wide, and preferred to drills in moory land, because they produce a drier crop. Long ago wooden ploughs were used, and I believe there is one in the district still, although it is never used. Spades are bought in the shops.
The names of the potatoes sown in my district mostly are: Champions, Aran-chiefs, Aran-Banners, Shamrocks, Leinster Wonders, Kerrs Pink, and Colleens.
