  1. Cures
    A cure for a cough.
    2 ozs Pearl Barley.
    3 Lumps of Sugar.
    The rind and juice of 1 lemon.
    1 1/2 pints of boiling water
    Wash the barley in cold water, then put it into a saucepan, and bring to the boil. Strain and return the barley to the saucepan. Add the sugar, rind and juice of lemon, and 1 1/2 pints of boiling water. Bring to the boil and boil slowly for from 15 to 20 mins. Then strain and use when cold.

  2. Another cure for a cough
    Boil half a bucket of Lusinalee and 4 springs of Brooklime in two quarts of water and boil until the liquid is reduced to 1 quart, and then strain. Add sugar candy and liquorice and boil until both are dissolved.
    Leave until next day. Then put into bottles and cork.
