  1. The Famine Times
    During the famine the poor people of the district suffered terribly. A great number died either from starvation or from sickness brought on by the bad food. Most of the poor people depended on the potatoes, and when they failed, the only food they had to eat was boiled oaten meal mixed with cabbage.
    The crop decayed in the ground. the next year the potatoes were sown broadcast.
