- In olden days when the people died wakes were held. At the wakes there were clay pipes full of tobacco given around to the men and snuff to the women. The corpse was not brought to the Chapel it was brought to the graveyard from the home. Old women were paid to cry the corpse and it was considered to bring luck. At other wakes they had plenty of drink of all kinds. Two night wakes were the customs in those years. At Newhall long ago they would put the corpse on a big stone and turn it six times around before they would carry it to the graveyard.
- Long ago when a person died their people would wake them at home for two or three nights. The people would give around clay pipes full of tobacco.
