    Eamon O' Ryan known in song and story as Eamonn a Cnuic was born in the townsland of Knocneahill, Upperchurch.

    He studied for the priesthood but it is learned that he left college in the troubled period and got a commission in the Irish Army and fought under the command of Sarsfield at the battles of Aughrim and Limerick. He was a splendid type of Tipperary manhood as Davis wrote:-
    "Tall in his form, his heart is warm"
    His spirit light as any fairy
    His brow is wrathful as the storm
    That sweeps the hills of Tipperary"
    Soon after the signing of the Treaty of Limerick, he with faithful comrades had to live the outlaw's brief career. He was a much wanted man, with a price on his head for the hungry Saxon Wolves were howling for his blood. He was in love with a beautiful Co. Kilkenny girl a Miss Leahy and they were to be married in Doon. At this time
