- Flax was grown in abundance in our district in about the year 1558. The people sowed the flax in March and reaped it in June. It was sown in ridges with a spade just as some people sow th epotatoes nowadays and in early June it was reaped with a reaping-hook or sickle and made into small(continues on next page)
