  1. About one hundred years ago there lived a witch in Dalton's Hill Cloughleigh, Golden. She had a small cave under the hill. In the middle of the cave there is a big stone and on the stone there is the print of her five fingers and under the stone she had a subterranean passage as far as a well in Downey;s bog (same townland). She was married twenty one times and she killed her husband every year. Then she washed herself in the well and she appeared as young as a girl of eighteen years. She lived seven years with her last husband, but she had only one daughter that was with her first husband and when she killed her last husband she went to the well and unravelled a ball of thread. The daughter wondered where she used to go for it as it was when she came back her husband was always missing. So the girl followed the thread and when she went to the well the witch was washing herself and when she saw her daughter coming
