"Leave him to me" says the woman. She went up into an ivy tree and called out cuckoo. She thought the fool would leave when he'd head the cuckoo. But the fool picked up stones and began to flog the tree. The farmer begged him to stop but he would not. At last when he had half killed the old woman the marmer said he was tired of the bargain. "Very well" says the fool "off with your shirt till I get the strip of shin off your back.
The farmer had to give him a bag of money before he would leave the place.
The fool returned home with money enough to make them comfortable for the rest of their days. "And if they did not live happy that we may so put down the kettle and make tay."
