A man named Dan Costigan had two haggards and there was a ditch between them, on which grew a white thorn bush, some said it was part of an old fort.
Dan cut down this bush though warned not to touch it. He got a prod of a thorn in his thumb. The thumb swelled and got bach and he lost it.His wife who burned the bush also got a prod and she also lost a finger.
