    a bare-footed boy, who asked him for a penny to buy bread. He hit the poor boy a crack of the whip which he had in his hand and told him to get out of his way. Instantly the fo boy disappeared.
    Then Cormac heard a clap of thunder. He rose on as quickly as a he could. He came to a cross between Prospect and Cloughprior. As it was raining very hard Cormac got down from his horse. He went in under the shade of a tree at this cross.
    He was not long there when the tree was struck by lightning. The tree fell on poor Cormac and he was killed instantly
    The crossroad at which he was killed was ever afterwards, known as Cormac's cross.
