    A lot of crafts were worked in the locality in olden times, such as candle making, basket making and weaving. When the tallow was melted, it was dropped into a mould the shape of a candle. A wick was made of cotton threads and placed in the middle of the tallow. This, when hard, was a candle. The country people made baskets from twigs. The twigs were woven together and shaped like a basket. They made a king of basket called a sciat for drawing in the turf.

    In the year 1870, thee flax industry was going on in this locality and surrounding districts.

    In the year 1870 the flax industry was going on in this locality and surrounding districts. Linen was made out of it. The seed was set in the month of March and was left growing all the summer. My grandmother used to grow it and get it ready for thread.
    In September it was cut and made into sheaves. It was then carried to a river and left there for a month or
