  1. Candle making in Ireland long ago.
    When the woman of the house wanted to make a candle all she had to do was melt fat of sheep, she had a tin mould ready she put a piece of thin cord into the mould, poured the melted fat into it, let it set and harden.
    There is a certain rush growing in the fields which was also used as light. That rush was peeled. The pith of the rush was put into the tin mould. Melted fat of sheep was poured intpo the mould and left to set and harden.
