  1. Seán Finn (continued)

Poem composed on the death of Commandant Seán Finn, of the West Limerick Brigade..

    (continued from previous page)
    Another, and for many more,
The cool Spring breeze did steal,
Each little bird in terror stirred,
And to a safer nook did go,
For those Saxon foes, with their guns and swords,
    Broke the peace, around Ballyroe.
Some wanted men they chanced to see,
And they hoped for an easy prey,
Their hearts beat high for victory or promotion some fine day,
Our lads though few, stood loyal and true,
And soon Saxon blood did flow,
And the best of men was brave Seán Finn,
    That eve at Ballyroe.
Twas well he fought for Erin's Isle,
    The bravest of the brave,
And battled with the tyrant's might,
    His comrades dear to save,
And in that tight, and heroic fight
He gave back blow for blow,
Till his young heart's blood rushed in a stream
    In the sod at Ballyroe.
