  1. Never kill or skin an animal on a Monday.
    Never open a grave on a Monday.
    Servants do not like to go in place on a Monday or a Friday.
    People are loath to begin work such as ploughing or cutting hay on a Saturday.
    The first person to enter a house on new year's day should be a man.
    People remain up on new year's night and at 12 o'clock, they open the door and welcome the new year in. A male inhabitant goes out one door and comes in another, wishing all a happy new year.
    White oats should be set before St. Patrick's day.
    "Cuckoo oats and woodcock hay are enough to hunt the farmer away."
    When the cuckoo comes, it is too late for oats. It is too late to cut hay when the wood-cock comes, as then the sap is gone out of the hay, and it is no good.
