The mermaid:- The mermaid is said to be half a woman and half a fish. It has the head and body of a woman and the tail of a fish. it is said that mermaids were seen occasionally around Foynes long ago. They are said to be connected with some families having "O" and "Mac" in their names. When members of those families die a mermaid is often heard singing a lament near the seashore.
