  1. A great Wind raged through this part of the country in 1839. Trees were uprooted, houses were blown down, and roofs were blown off the houses.
About forty years ago we had a great snowfall. The snow piled up above the houses to a height of thirty or forty feet. The people were unable to come out from their houses. A great number of people died of starvation.
