- One sign concerning bad weather is that a mackerel bellied sky never holds twenty four hours dry. Another is that a rainbow in the morning is the shepherd's warning and a rainbow at night is the shepherd's delight.
When the wind comes from the east the weather is the hardest. When the wind comes from the north the weather is the coldest. The wind from the south-west is the softest and rainiest.
The south west wind brings most rain to the district.
An old saying concerning the east wind is that the wind from the east is neither good for a man or beast.
