- There was a big battle in Knockanard between the Irish and some of Cromwells army. The battle was very bloody and a flood of blood went down to the Blackwater from it. The hill was named after the battle Croc an Dr which means the hill of Slaughter. The Puritans killed a number of monks, who were escaping from Fermoy in a sand pit field near the river.
