- (continued from previous page)in this trade were called Chandlers. Mrs. Kennedy of Dorgan's Lane was a basket maker but this means of livelihood has disappeared from our midst. Forge work was a very common trade in former times. One of those forges was the property of Mr. Hayes in the Main Street while outside the town a distance of four miles there was another situated owned by Mr. J. Power. But the most notable of these was O'Sullivan's in the New Line North but it is now a thing of the past as Mr. Casey a local cattle dealer uses it for stabling purposes.
Spinning and weaving were the daily task of Mary Piggot of Newtownbarry and of Kathleen and Ellen Twomey of the Main Street. Many thatchers lived here too for example, Mr. Ned Casey of the Race(continues on next page)- Collector
