    From Ballydesmond storied town of late I chanced to stray.
    To Knockavo straight I did go with heart so light and gay.
    Till wandering by the Araglen all in the month of June.
    'Twas there I spied a lovely maid
    The star of Royal Doon.

    And fair the scene that valley green
    Bedecked with summer flowers.
    The wild birds sang the whole day long and whiled away the hours.
    The balmy air was scented there and nature in full bloom.
    When my Colleen dúbh arose to view.
    The Star of Royal Doon.

    As on I strayed this gentle maid addressed me with a smile
    And by Faill Dhomhnaill's verdant shade I laid me down a while
    I wondered if it was Venus fair I spied that afternoon
    "O No" said she "my pals style me.
