- (continued from previous page)twelve feet square. Some of the linen which was made is still to be seen in a few houses in the parish. It was of a coarse thick quality and of a white colour. There was also a linen mill on Coolkelure Demesne and was owned by Lady Carbery who was a McCarthy of Togher Castle before her marriage.
In our school is the remains of a hackle which was used to comb the flax. It was made of wood, was a foot square with a handle about a foot long and six inches broad. In the sure were three hundred and fifty six iron spikes about a quarter of an inch apart and about six inches long and pointed at the top.
A 'Tuairgín' can also be seen here. This too, was used in the manufacture of linen. It is cylindrical in shape, is made of wood and has a handle.
