  1. The local fairs are held in Schull, Ballydehob, Skibbereen and Bantry. They are always held in towns. Sometimes the buyers go around to the houses and buy the cattle and pigs. The town fairs are always held in the streets. When an animal is sold luck - money is always given, It is called luck. When an animal is sold the buyer and the seller show their agreement by striking their hands. A shilling a head luck is given for pigs and a half - crown for cattle. When the animals are sold they are marked with paint and with mud. The halter is never given away with the cattle but it is given away with horses. There is a special horse fair held in Skibbereen once a year. When cattle are being carried to the station six - pence a head toll is paid to the toll - collector.
