  1. The time of the big snow is recalled by many old people in Ireland yet. This great snowfall occurred in the month of February 1855.
    The people had a terrible time and endured many hardships before a thaw came. Like all snowstorms it came unexpectedly and people had not sufficient supplies of food stored up to feed them while it lasted. The only thing was that in that people lived on home grown and home manufactured food.
    The people made their on butter and lived on and drank buttermilk; ate potatoes
