  1. There are very few endowed with the gift of poetry at present, and the few that are attempting it are only making parodies on poems of the past. People attribute the absence of the gift of poetry to Providence as poetry too often was abused by those who had it when they made scornful songs about their enemies.
    About fifty years ago there lived in Ballinagree a famous poet named Aherne. His compositions were of a very high character He mostly wrote in praise of some famous shrine
