  1. Kilmichael parish in which we live was the scene of a great ambush in the year 1920. At that time English military were scattered all over the country owing to the trouble which prevailed. The Irish Republican Army had become very active and were trying by every means in their power to subdue English rule in the country. Ambushes became frequent and on the twenty eighty of November, on a Sunday evening, the Kilmichael one took place.
    Some of the British had taken up residence at Macroom Castle. They were known as the "Black and Tans".
    They went out on lorries that Sunday evening towards Shanacashel. The Republicans expected them and had waited for them. They
