  1. Dan Hanly, Cloonmore was a very quick runner. It would take him about 5 minutes to run a mile. He was 85 when he died.
    Pat Lyster, Bracna ran to Athlone and back from Knockcroghery station for his marriage certificate in two hours. He was 90 years when he died.

  2. Martin Treacy Cloonmore was a great swimmer. He swam from Connaught to Leinster about 2½ miles across the Shannon in a short time.
    Pat Dodd of Longford swam from Inis Crawley to the Quaker Island a distance of two miles.
    Paddy Fayne, Longford, swam from Longford shore to the Cloonmore shore in 35 minutes. This was over 2 miles.
