- Dan Hanly, Cloonmore was a very quick runner. It would take him about 5 minutes to run a mile. He was 85 when he died.Pat Lyster, Bracna ran to Athlone and back from Knockcroghery station for his marriage certificate in two hours. He was 90 years when he died.
- Martin Treacy Cloonmore was a great swimmer. He swam from Connaught to Leinster about 2½ miles across the Shannon in a short time.Pat Dodd of Longford swam from Inis Crawley to the Quaker Island a distance of two miles.Paddy Fayne, Longford, swam from Longford shore to the Cloonmore shore in 35 minutes. This was over 2 miles.
