    Thro' the covert the music grows fainter and fainter,

    No! hark to that shout from the greatest of horsemen,
    As Townsend of Myross sings out tally-ho,
    And listen again to Burn's answering horn,
    Saying he's gone far away on the coach-road below.

    Over Leap's craggy hillside the music is thrilling
    With huntsmen and hounds going gallantly on,
    And past Shepperton Lakes, oh! the pace it is killing,
    With Miss Smyth of Downeen closing up in the van.

    How oft' by those waters she has met and beat them
    And shall we to-day forget "Auld Lang Syne,
    When gallant Maria led the bravest of horsemen,
    And captured the brush on the banks of Lough Ine.
