- All the farmers around this district grow potatoes. The varieties they grow are Kerr's Pinks and Irish Queens and Arran Banners, and Champions. They used to spread the manure long ago with their hands. The potatoes that used to have an eye or two would be cut for seed and the part that has no eye is called the bearrachán. The farmers now plough the ground with a plough and make the ridges with a plough. Then they level the ridges with a grafán. Then the farmers make the holes for the seed with a spade. Then they put in the seed with their hands. The holes then are closed with a folahine. Then after a month or two(continues on next page)
