  1. This happened up in Kilglass about fifty years ago. This woman had six cows. She started to churn one day and if she was at it from that day till this all she would get would be froth. She even got the priest and it was no good. One day an old beggar woman came in and she told her to stay up that night and she would see who was taking the butter.
At mid-night her neighbor came in and she had a dead hand with which she stirred the milk and said "Gather butter so it did." When she was going out the woman of the house took up a coal and hit her with it. The next day the woman had a scab on the back of her neck.
