    When coercion blasts swept through the land.
    With spies and British gold
    Which left the best of Irish hearts
    In dungeons dark and cold
    While some escaped the informer's claws
    And left our native shore.
    Without a man to raise the flag
    But Johny from Kilmore.

    He dragged it from the tyrant's grasp
    And painted it anew
    With the Harp of Erin, stamped in front
    And the dear old Shamrock too
    While Stalwart men with willing hearts
    Before the green flag swore
    They'd fight for dear old Ireland
    And brave Johny From Kilmore.

    The nights were long and bright
    He took us down the lonesome vale
