- The name of the town-land I live in is Clonfree, it is in the parish of Strokestown and the barony of Roscommon.
It is well populated but there has been a decrease within the last few years. Some of the people died and some imigrated to America. There are about twenty families in it at present.
Gilleran' and Hunt are the most common names. The principal type of house is one-story and thatched.
The town-land got its name long ago from an Irish chieftain named Fraoch. He owned the whole of this town-land and ever since it is called Clonfree which means meadow of Friach.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
