  1. In olden times people used to eat about two meals a day; these were the breakfast and supper. At that time people used to get up very early. Some were up at four or five o'clock in the morning, on this account and still more because of their hard day's work they used to go to bed at about seven o'clock at night.
    For their breakfast they had stirabout and milk. After this they had a drink called sounds made from the juice of oatmeal. For their supper they used to have potato cake and a drink of buttermilk. Sometimes they used to have oat bread and potatoes for their breakfast. The oat bread was baked on a griddle.
