  1. In 1845 there was double the population in Ireland that there is nowadays. Most of the people were very poor and they were not able to pay rent. There were large crops of corn and stocks of cattle. half of the people never even got bread to eat. Some people had potatoes and turf and they did not (escept) expect anymore. Potatoes are a crop that is easy to grow but it is not a sure crop. They cannot be kept anymore than a few months. Ever since the famine the potatoes are the main food of the
