  1. The Local Fairs
    The local fairs are held in Cullahill, Rathdowney, Ballinahill and Urlingford.
    The fair of Cullahill is held twice a year. It is held on the 27th May and the 2nd October. The fair of Rathdowney is held on the third Tuesday of each month. June except. The fair of Ballinahill is also held in the third week.
    Fairs are always held in towns. Buyers sometimes transact business in farmer's houses before the above fairs.
    About one hundred and fifty years ago a fair was held in the "Fair Green" of Aughmacart now owned by Mr. John McDonnell Rapls.
    According to local tradition a town was once there. It had its monastery and castle and cemetry.
    The fair was discontinued and held in Rathdowney as it was nearer to Ballybrophy Railway Station.
    The fair of Cullahill is held on the rocks but the other fairs are held in the streets.
