    Over meadow and moor,over hill dell and hollow.
    They passed the ruined stronghold and Castle of clannan.
    That for years has resisted old Cromwell's best cannon.
    Swiftly they gallant steed gracefully bore them.
    Until Lord Ruslall's turnpike gates stood before them.
    But no toll was demanded from Phelim O'Carroll
    For the gates opened wide to old Father O'Farrell.
    They are close on our tracks Hah the bloodhounds are baying.
    Speed on my brave Morna O'Carroll
