    caused by the way in which the sheaves are sloped towards one another. When building up to the ring and getting the stack wider the short end of the butt is placed down and so the long end overlaps and widens the stack. After the ring is passed the short end of the butt is placed uppermost. This has the effect of drawing in the round and so making the diameter smaller. Also after the ring is passed the sheaves are brought in bit by bit and the heart is kept higher and higher.
    The properly built stack is high to the ring, about 7' and short-roofed about 4½'.
