  1. Billy Baird left his home one October morning and (bid) bade his wife "good morning" and went into town to buy a spade. When he got the spade he met with some comrades, and went into a public house and drank to dusk. They sang some songs and then departed for home. All went well with Billy till he came to a Fort. He went in through a gap and dug a sod. People saw him going in that direction but he was not seen after. His wife
