  1. Local Marriage Custom
    Marriages locally take place before Shrove Tuesday.
    Fridays are thought unlucky and the month during Lent.
    Matches are not usually made around this district. Money is often given as a dowry. There is usually a wedding feast and a dance held. There is an old saying with reference to the brides dress. "Something old something new something borrowed and something blue." Old shoes and boots are tied to the back of the car that brings the bride and bridegroom from the church. The front of it is always decorated with white ribbons. Rice and confetti are thrown on the bride and bridegroom
