  1. The Penal Times
During the Penal times when all the Catholic Churches were closed there was a tyrannical landlord living in Pottlerath a short distance from the village of Kilmanagh. His name was Warren.
One Sunday morning when one of the workmen was late Warren asked one of his fellow workers where was he. He told him that he was at Mass. Warren cursed and swore and said " how could he go to Mass when I have the key of the church." He was told he heard Mass in the Mass pit. When the man came back he was asked where was he. He told the truth and said he was at Mass. Warren gave him the keys in dispair and told him to open the church.
