  1. When the Normans settled in Ireland one of their number named Fitzmaurice settled at the place now know as Castle morris but then called Coillatrighe. He decided to build the present mansion and had elaborate plans of his own for the building. He did not wish anyone to criticise his work or say what he should or should not do. He brought many local people to see the mansion while work was in progress, and asked them what they thought about the place. Those who praised it each got a tenpenny peice, but to those who said he should do this
