  1. This was the bread eaten in the locality, according to Ned, 50, 60, 70 or 80 years ago.
    The bread was baked on a griddle and expressed the greatest suprise that I had never seen one of the griddles - except a small one. The griddles used were as big as the school black-board, he said - i.e. over a yard in diameter.
    Straw was put under the griddle and when I asked him why, he declared, that straw was the best for baking.
