  1. There is a fort in Lavallyroe, and it is called "Tios an Torainn" or the Iron Fort. It is situated on the Ballyhaunis-Cloonfad public about seventy yards from Lavallyroe cross roads.
The area of the fort is one Irish road. There is a ditch six feet high all round it. It eighteen feet wide between the mound and the ditch. There are no fairies in it. It is situated in McDonagh's field, and they ploughed it up once, but when they went out in the morning it was all turned over again.
There is an underground tunnel running eastwards crossing the public road between Cloonfad and Ballyhaunis. It was the Danes that built the fort.
There are numerous hawthorn bushes there, and the people of the village are afraid to pull them up for fear of "pisreogai"
My grandfather was coming home from Ballyhaunis a few years ago he could not find the turn for home. He kept going backwards and forward
